UPDATE - June 2013

Not written for a while. Nothing really to tell you.

During the recent nice spell of weather, I have turned to gardening and have waged war on a new threat to my garden . . . killer nettles. Nettles which cover much of our land and grow to triffid-like proportions at breakneck speed. Chainsaws would marvel at the razor-sharp teeth edging the biggest nettle leaves seen.

Weeding them one by one, takes two pairs of gloves worn over each other along with a good dose of antihistamines. Despite these precautions, my hands throb from the multitude of nettle stings. The one positive is that at 4 feet tall (the nettles - not me!), I don't need to bend down to pull them up. I am making headway and have cleared the path which runs along the top of the garden, it has been transformed from this...

to this ...

My next war is targeted against the bracken!

Building works coming along. I have just started painting a room which at the start of the year had no roof, windows or doors !!!!!!

Next blog - A donkey visit

  1. Fox gloves are poisonous to some animals! So the cats better watch out...although maybe that will keep the sheep off!

  2. Better keep some nettles for when we visit. Girly has taken to nettle tea!

    1. and nettle pesto.
      and soup.

Unless they have flowered. Apparently they are bad for your heart then.

    2. Thanks for the advice. Right now, the cats are so pestiferous (love that word - found it when looking for a word meaning 'pesky'), I really don't mind if they want to explore foxgloves. Come to think of it, I might even introduce them to it! (Gizmo, excluded because he just goes about his life nonchalantly, as cats do - no favouritism there - honest!)

You are welcome to some trifids, in fact, have the lot. Just don't expect me to eat the product. Any food made from THESE nettles surely has to be avoided. I have enough medical issues at this time, without adding more! Gizmo has clearly already met the nettles as he refuses to walk anywhere near them. I just might introduce Yoda & Dobby to the flowered variety though!
